Burnout is a common problem for Americans in the current interconnected world. It can be hard to separate things like work and home when you can do certain work tasks, like answering emails, from home. This can easily lead to burnout, but GoodNet has some good tips to prevent this.

Creating boundaries

One of the easiest ways to prevent burnout is to set boundaries for yourself to follow. These boundaries should be personal limits that you create for what is comfortable and acceptable. This can help those around you to understand what your own expectations are. If things don’t feel right to you, it’s alright to say no to things, for example, working over the holidays or checking emails at home.

Work-life balance

It's important to have a very clear separation between personal time and work time. This separation is created by establishing a work-life balance, a balance that every person should have to prevent burnout. It’s important to make sure that you don’t do things related to work during your own personal time, which is basically any time you're off the clock.

Take breaks while working

While you're at work it’s also important to take small breaks so you don’t completely wear yourself out. If you work in a job where you sit all day and look at a screen, this can take a big toll on your physical and mental health. Make sure that you get up every couple of hours to walk around or grab a coffee from the break room. It’s also very important to not skip lunch and to not eat at your desk. The best thing that you can do is go outside for your lunch hour to get some fresh air and a break.
