Did You Know Keith Urban Was Once in a Metal Band?
Here is some news I never knew. It might surprise you also. Keith Urban recently revealed that he was once a member of a metal band named “Fractured Mirror,” inspired by an Ace Frehley song.
Keith Got Fired
During an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Urban discussed his musical journey, including his early guitar playing and singing competitions. Taste of Country says Urban recalled discovering Iron Maiden when he was around 15 or 16 years old. He was a big fan of metal at the time, despite growing up on country music, and so he joined Fractured Mirror as a guitarist. But he’d also become enamored with bluegrass musician Ricky Skaggs, and his “chicken picking” influenced Urban’s guitar playing.
That’s when things got weird. “I’m suddenly into that, and I’m in this band, and we’re doing this full-on Saxon song,” Urban remembered. “They throw me a solo and I’m chicken-picking it. The lead singer looks around like, ‘What the?’… They fired me.”
Good News For Country Music
Despite his love for metal music, Urban’s chickenpicking guitar style led to his dismissal from the band. While his time in the metal scene was short-lived, Urban’s transition to country music has made him a massive success in the industry.
