Central Texas Man On His Way To North Carolina With Trucks Full Of Hurricane Helene Relief
As we’re gathering at the radio station today (1520 South Boulevard) to gather supplies for Hurricane Helene relief, I wanted to pass something along. I’ve been blessed over the years to live and be a part of some of the best communities in the nation. I’ve been more than fortunate to witness first-hand the generosity of people. I think it’s important to remember as we’re being bombarded by messages this political season telling us how different and polarized we are that in reality, we’re pretty much all the same and care for one another. I spent five years of my life (18-23) living and going to school in central Texas (the Waco area). And my heart was lifted this morning when I came across the story of a Lorena, Texas man who has loaded up a truck with supplies for Hurrican Helene relief and he’s headed our way.
It started with Brian Buckner making this plea on his Facebook page.
All Buckner was hoping to do was to fill one semi truck and get a few hundred dollars worth of cash donations. Well, never underestimate the power of love when it comes to people wanting to help others in need. According to KWTX-TV, just four days after Buckner’s post, they’ve received more than 50 thousand dollars to help buy supplies and got enough donations to fill three semi-trucks. Even the trucks are donated, with one semi coming from Buckner, another coming from a truck driver in South Carolina, and then a third semi and box truck from the Lone Star Truck Group in Waco.
I look forward to seeing you at the station today. I look forward to unloading your cars and trucks with supplies for our neighbors in western North Carolina. And more than anything else, I look forward to once again being reminded first-hand of how good we are…especially to each other.
