A man feels much better after having a live cockroach removed from his small intestine.

How They Found It

The cockroach was discovered when a 23-year-old man from New Delhi, India, went to get medical help for stomach pain and indigestion. "The patient was suffering from indigestion and bloating after eating," said Dr. Shubham Vatsya. "During routine inspections, we incidentally spotted the live cockroach."  Once the cause was found, the doctor immediately had the three-centimeter cockroach removed from his stomach during an endoscopy.  The man was surprised to find out he'd eaten a cockroach and doctors were surprised the cockroach was intact and still alive when they performed the removal.

This Guy Got Lucky

People.com says that cockroaches are a well-known vector for disease, according to the National Library of Medicine, which lists a host of pathogens the insects carry, including E. Coli,  Staphylococcus,  Salmonella, Rotavirus, Aspergillus, and more. So the fact that they found and got it out might have saved this man's life. Plus, how did the stomach acid not kill the pest? Still, we all shutter at the thought of a bug getting into our body. Eww!
