I have seen these famous shoes up close, and meh. Not impressive until you know the history behind them. A Hollywood costume item known around the world is back up for sale. Spoiler alert. They are not made out of real rubies, just kind of (faded) red sequins.

I hope I haven't made die hard Wizard of Oz fans mad already. Trust me, I revere and appreciate this iconic Hollywood costume item. The FBI found the slippers in 2018. They were originally owned by movie buff Michael Shaw. Now they are up for auction until December 7 through Heritage Auctions in Dallas.

Kind of a funny story about the guy that stole the slippers in the first place. A fella by the name of Terry Jon Martin reportedly stole the shoes and he served some time in jail for that. Now Terry believed the shoes contained real rubies (reportedly). I mean they were insured for one million dollars. That's an honest mistake? This is cool. This auction will include a hat worn by the Wicked Witch of the West.

It is my understanding that Judy Garland wore several pairs of "ruby slippers". This iconic Hollywood costume item is up for sale. The Judy Garland museum reportedly wants to purchase them.
