2 Women Ruled On Netflix Fight Night
Let me just say, on a scale of 1-10, I am a solid 1 when it comes to anything concerning boxing. Back in the day my Dad and I were avid fans of Muhammad Ali. So just for nostalgia’s sake I wanted to watch this fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. So, I was ready at 8 for the big match up. What I didn’t realize was there would be three fights before we got to the main event.
From Knowing Nothing To A Huge Fan
I got up for work at 3:30 that morning and I knew I couldn’t make it all the way to fight number four. Turns out, that was ok because everyone was complaining about the buffering when watching it live. I chose to wait til the next day. I was in for a treat.
I discovered on social media that the real fight to watch was the women’s lightweight championship. I have never watched a women’s boxing match in my life. But here I am and here’s why. Amanda Serrano.
When I first started watching the fight, I was going to pull for Katie Taylor. The only reason was because she was the defending champion. I knew nothing about Taylor or Serrano. But these women can box. They were there to fight. They were there to prove something. And that something was they wanted to prove they were the best and they wanted to actually box/fight. Like I said, pardon my lack of appropriate jargon. I just knew that these women made a fan of me.
So I am one or two rounds in and I am on the edge of my seat. They landed blows. There were unintentional head buts. Which led to a serious cut above the eye to Serrano. They both were landing important blows/jabs/ whatever you call them. All I knew was I went in not a fan and finished watching the fight following Serrano on social media and becoming a big fan.
At the end, Taylor was declared the winner. But I have never seen more heart in a sport than I saw in Amanda Serrano. I know they must have weighed around the same but Amanda looked smaller and certainly had a smaller head than her opponent . But she fought like a lion and she never gave up, not for a second. After the fight, Amanda was the first to offer a sportsmanlike hug. And was very sportsmanlike in the post interview. Yes, those head butts were mentioned. But she personified grace and graciousness.
