This May Be The World’s Oldest Board Game
Recently archaeologists in Azerbaijan discovered something incredible from the 4,000-year-old nomadic encampment they were searching at according to GoodNet.
The discovery made by the team was surprisingly similar to something that had been found in an ancient Egyptian tomb. What they found is thought to be the oldest board game in history that we currently know of.
This board game was found at six different sites across Azerbaijan. The research team found different rocks with carved designs that are extremely similar to the game Hounds and Jackals, an ancient Egyptian game.
The board games found in Azerbaijan are dated to be from before 2000 BCE, which means they’re actually older than the version in ancient Egypt. This discovery means two different things: Hounds and Jackals is likely older than historians once thought, and it likely didn’t even originate in Egypt.
Hounds and Jackals is actually a game that can still be played today. Some other games like Backgammon, Checkers, Chess, Mancala, and Chutes and Ladders are also ancient games that are still played by mankind currently.
It’s interesting to think that thousands of years ago our ancestors were playing board games similar to the ones we play today. Who knows, one day we may just find an even older board game that is still played today!
