It was a rainy gloomy Saturday morning, and the hubs was out of town golfing. So, my recent college grad son and I decided we were up for some brunch. I remembered seeing something on my social media feed this week for a place called Biscuit Belly in Fort Mill, South Carolina. And, off we went.

More About Biscuit Belly

Biscuit Belly is a chain with locations in Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Restaurateurs and husband and wife Chad and Lauren Coulter make up the team behind the concept. The Coulters, once upon a time, were pharmacists, according to their website. They began with a wine and tapas concept that turned out to be successful. So next, they looked to a meal they both love...brunch.

And, with the expertise of executive chef Tavis Rockwell, Biscuit Belly was born. Rockwell's biscuit recipe took months to perfect. And, not only does it taste like a labor of love, it looks like one. Each biscuit at Biscuit Belly arrives in the cute shape of a heart. Or, at least this weekend they did. Maybe that was a nod to Valentine's Day. Regardless, I like the touch!

Furthermore, the Coulters believe everyone from first dates to families are a part of the success. And, they enjoy seeing the joy Biscuit Belly brings everyone who walks through the doors. Their website reads, 'We view strangers as friends we haven't met yet. Our restaurants are an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome.'

The Biscuit Belly Experience And Food

So, let's get to the food! Biscuit Belly is a fast, casual relaxed place. You enter and grab a menu to look over before ordering at the counter. You take a seat and your food is brought to you. Of course, Biscuit Belly is 'biscuit-centric.' Lots of dishes centered around the delicious biscuit.

There's everything on the menu from biscuit sandwiches loaded with buttermilk fried chicken and sausage gravy to eggs and bacon or even brisket on a biscuit. Some toppings on menu items include sweet pepper jelly and goat cheese and fried green tomatoes to avocado. Plus, there's sides and apps.

I signed up for their rewards. And, as a thank you, I got the 'Bonuts.' That's yummy biscuit donut holes rolled in cinnamon sugar with a bourbon cream frosting for dipping. For my entree I ordered the Brisket Biscuit and a side of Loaded Breakfast Tots filled with bacon and cheddar and a sweet maple mayo sauce.

My son ordered the Boozy Bird, buttermilk fried chicken breast with bourbon maple syrup. And, you can add a shot of bourbon and keep the glass for an upcharge. And, of course, they offer typical coffees and breakfast cocktails including Mimosas and Bloody Mary.

We really enjoyed our visit to Biscuit Belly. We'll be back, and I hope you'll give it a try too!

4 Of The Country’s Most Delicious Brunch Spots Are In South Carolina

Mother's Day is fast approaching (friendly reminder to start that shopping if you haven't yet!). It's also the perfect day to treat mom to brunch. As a millennial brunch is one of my favorite meals in existence, and I will always be down to go. But if you're treating mom to brunch then you want to make sure you are taking her to the absolute best- she deserves nothing but perfection. So where is that spot? Well according to the latest rankings from YELP South Carolina is home to 4 of the country's top places for brunch. And two are in North Carolina! 6 out of 100 isn't bad at all. The bad news, only one spot is local to the Charlotte area. The others require a little more time and perhaps a hotel stay. But I'm sure Mom would love a trip too!

So where did these rankings come from? Here's exactly what YELP had to say: "This is an all-time list of the best brunch spots for Mother's Day according to Yelp. We identified businesses in the Breakfast & Brunch category with a large concentration of reviews mentioning "brunch," then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews mentioning "brunch." If a chain appeared on the list more than once, we only included the highest-rated location. We included only 10 businesses per state for geographic diversity. All businesses were marked open on Yelp as of April 6, 2023. When available, all businesses on this list have a passing health score as of April 6, 2023."

So keep reading to which spots made the cut as the best of the best for brunch in South Carolina. You can view the full top 100 list from Yelp here!
