This is the perfect time of year for a good hearty chili.  Whether you’re watching a game with friends, hosting movie night or just having one of those relaxing weekends with nothing planned and pjs for days…game day chili never disappoints.

Game Day Chili

Normally, I do pretty much all of the cooking in our house.  However, when it comes to game day chili, my hubby takes the lead.  I will warn you, we are from Texas, and we are incapable of making anything at spice level 0…this one is cranked up to a Tums level 10!  But, you can totally back off on the heat if you don’t fall into this category.

It’s very simple, and mostly consists of throwing a bunch of stuff in and letting it simmer away.  Quick and convenient!  Game day chili is perfect for transporting in a crockpot and keeping it warm at the party. But, my family didn't always make chili at home growing up. We actually cracked open a can of the Texas brand Wolf Brand Chili.

Chili Cheese Dogs With Game Day Chili

Yep, it was usually a Sunday night when we had what I consider now to be 'game day chili.' But, we rarely just ate the chili in a bowl. We made chili cheese dogs. We dumped the can into a saucepan and nestled the hot dogs into the chili to warm up.

Then, we heated the oven broiler. We foiled up a cookie sheet and placed buns onto the pan. Next, we put the hot dogs into the buns and slathered on the chili. And, finally, after sprinkling on shredded cheese, into the broiler they went to get melty and toasty. Those were some amazing chili cheese dogs.

So, perhaps you'll decide after you make a batch of game day chili you need to use it to whip up a batch of chili cheese dogs. You won't be disappointed. Nevertheless...here's our favorite recipe for game day chili!
