Do You Know Someone Who Still Has Their Christmas Tree Up Months Past Christmas?
I was scrolling through Facebook, and I saw a post from a friend about a particular taco fast food restaurant where they live still having their Christmas tree up now. And, by the way, as I write this, it’s March 6. I got to wondering if there are people or other businesses that might still have the tree up.
I’m sure there are. No judgement here. I still haven’t put all our Thanksgiving and Christmas dishes and decorations back in the attic. We no longer have them displayed. But, the boxes are in an upstairs loft ready for someone to haul back to their storage spot.
How Long Is Too Long To Leave The Christmas Tree Up?
I did a little digging about leaving the Christmas tree up way past the holidays. And, one thing I did find was in some instances people leave it up until January 6. That is what’s known as “The Feast of the Epiphany.” And, it’s considered good luck. Supposedly, the tradition indicates Christmas needs time to leave the house. In our case, relatives need time to leave the house first! LOL. And, also in one article I read it indicated January 6 is when the Three Kings arrived in Bethlehem.
Now, I’m assuming these trees being left up are artificial. But, if you do have a real tree, apparently this article linked above I read had tips for keeping a live Christmas tree thriving until January 6. Good luck with that!
Beyond the tradition I just mentioned, there are probably other more sentimental reasons folks just can’t part with the tree. Possibly someone has a strong attachment to the holidays because it stirs memories of loved ones no longer with us. It’s certainly understandable to want to hang onto those memories and feelings brought to life by all the Christmas traditions.
My Personal Thoughts
I’m a mixture of both sentimental and ‘please, it’s time to take down the clutter and move on.’ I love the holidays more than just about anyone. But, it seems there comes a point when the decorations get tired. I look at them and they just appear as though they’re begging to be put away. It’s like a bride who wears their wedding dress too long.
We were at a wedding many years ago. And, the bride looked gorgeous in her white dress at the beginning of the day. However, after a lengthy ceremony and a reception that went way into the night refusing to quit, the shine wore off. All the guests and the bridal party began to look tired and sweaty, and the dress needed to retire for the night. So, I always think about that moment as odd as that sounds.
So, there’s no right or wrong time when it comes to how long to leave that Christmas tree up. It’s a personal choice. But, now I’m sure you’ll be thinking about that bride in her sweaty, tired dress next Christmas!
