North Carolina's Favorite Traditional Halloween Costume

Halloween is such a fun time of year, and finding the perfect Halloween costume isn't just for kids anymore. While Halloween used to be a time that was almost just for the kids, where everything was about trick-or-treating and getting the kiddies dressed in their costumes, now, there's a huge market for adults who do fun things on Halloween. Adult Halloween parties can be epic, and people seem to come up with more and more creative costumes each year. So, what's the most popular Halloween costume in the state?

The Top Halloween Costume in North Carolina

Before we get to costumes, let's go through a few fun and festive Halloween facts. Have you ever wondered how many people pretend to not be home on Halloween so they don't have to hand out candy? Well, a 2021 YouGov poll discovered that roughly one in five adults, specifically 21% of participants, turn their porch lights off and pretend not to be home when the trick-or-treaters come around. Not wanting to hand out candy is okay, but there's really no need to pretend to not even be home.

Seeing a full moon on Halloween makes the holiday extra special. But, it doesn't happen often. According to NASA, there's a full moon on Halloween usually once every 19 years. The last time a full moon happened on Halloween night, according to the Farmer's Almanac, was in 2020, so we'll be waiting a while for the next one.

Now, let's got to those costumes. Chicoo has a feature out naming the most popular classic Halloween costumes in each state. "From which porch light to run to next, to which piece of candy to unwrap first, Halloween is a night full of choices. None more important than the one that comes before the festivities even begin: the costume."

For North Carolina, they say the most popular is the "alien costume." As for the most popular classic Halloween costume across the country, it's the "mermaid," which is the top costume in seven states, according to the study.
