Two Roundabouts Coming to Oakdale Road in NW Charlotte in 2026
The North Carolina Department of Transportation awarded a $6.8 million contract to build two single-lane roundabouts in northwest Charlotte.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation awarded a $6.8 million contract to build two single-lane roundabouts in northwest Charlotte. Work begins in January 2026.
TrueRock Construction, LLC, a Monroe-based contractor, will handle it. The two roundabouts will appear at the intersections of Oakdale/Miranda/Simpson roads and Oakdale/Sunset/Miranda roads.
These interchanges sit less than a quarter-mile apart. Oakdale already has roundabouts on either side of its intersection with Interstate 485.
State transportation officials say roundabouts improve travel conditions. They allow traffic to move more efficiently at slower speeds. Crashes happen less often, and when they do occur, they're less severe.
Construction starts in early January 2026. Workers should finish the roadway portion by summer 2027.
Landscaping and vegetation work may stretch into 2028. The contract sets specific rules for road closures during construction.
Oakdale Road closures will happen only at night between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Other roads can close during non-peak daytime hours.
Restrictions will be in effect during holidays and special events to manage traffic flow. These steps aim to minimize disruption for drivers.
The project adds to the roundabouts already in the area. Officials think the new traffic circles will help manage vehicle movement more safely.
The $6.8 million investment targets a section of northwest Charlotte where multiple roads converge. This dual construction project represents a push to modernize how traffic moves through the region.
