Avelo Airlines just pushed its flight schedule at Concord-Padgett Regional Airport through mid-November. Passengers can now reserve seats to six spots the carrier serves as it pumps more resources into the North Carolina site. This growth happens while the airline builds operations at Concord.

"We do expect to continue to create more jobs as we add more flights and more airplanes," said Andrew Levy, CEO of Avelo Airlines, to WSOC-TV. "We have a base here, and what a base means, is that we have the airplanes that live here, so we have flight attendants, pilots, maintenance technicians, and airport operations people, who all are here."

Having a base means planes return to Concord each night. Workers live nearby and report to the site.

"They're members of the community. You're going to see them," Levy said. "If you're a frequent flyer out of here, you're going to see the same people when you keep coming to the airport."

Levy addressed whether Concord needs bigger facilities to match Charlotte. Both airports serve the same region, which creates a fight for flyers.

Avelo runs as a budget carrier. It has been building service from the smaller airport as an option instead of Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

More planes will arrive at the base soon, and each one brings new positions — flight crews, mechanics, and ground staff, all hired from the area.

Bookings stretch through mid-November. All six cities stay open for reservations during that window.
