Charlotte Douglas International Airport expects over 1.68 million passengers between April 2 and April 12. Officials predict more than 7,900 flights will leave during this 11-day window.

Thursday, April 2; Friday, April 3; and Sunday, April 12, will see the heaviest crowds. Most students have time off from school then.

Total passenger numbers sit about 3% below 2025 figures, but departing traffic from Charlotte has jumped 8%. Of 838,000 departing passengers anticipated, roughly 325,000 will begin their trips here — 25,000 more than last year.

About 35% of people passing through start in Charlotte. The other 65% use it as a connection point, a proportion that's grown roughly 9% across the past decade.

Officials want passengers to show up early. A partial government shutdown might reduce TSA staffing and stretch security wait times. The shutdown started Feb. 14 and has hit Transportation Security Administration operations at airports nationwide.

"CLT is committed to helping travelers have a smooth and efficient airport experience," said Jeff Perry, chief operating officer for CLT, according to Queen City News. "With an uptick in local traffic and the potential for longer TSA wait times, we encourage passengers to plan ahead, arrive early, and use all of the available tools for ease of travel."

Airports in Houston, New Orleans, and elsewhere saw security lines balloon to three hours or longer, yet Charlotte Douglas kept waits manageable throughout most of the shutdown. Estimated waits stayed under 10 minutes for much of the day on many weekdays. Times did climb near an hour during peak evening rushes, airport data shows.

The airport closed its gift card donation program for TSA workers Monday, March 30. This followed President Donald Trump's executive order directing the Department of Homeland Security to issue backpay to agency staff who've gone unpaid since the shutdown launched.

Passengers can check real-time security wait times at cltairport.com and through the CLT Airport App. Officials suggest arriving at parking spots at least 30 minutes before their planned terminal arrival to allow for delays.

Parking demand will be high. Travelers should book spots ahead of time at parkCLT.com.
