Woman Walking On The Beach Finds Ancient Mastodon Tooth
A woman walking on the beach found a huge ancient mastodon tooth a few days ago. She says she spotted something unusual sticking out of the sand. It was very unusual. It was a tooth from an ancient mastodon.
According to the Associated Press, the story got even more unusual. She actually lost the tooth and it took a kind hearted jogger to discover the relic again. Jennifer Schuh found the foot long tooth sticking out of the sand at the mouth of a creek in California. She wasn’t sure what she had found so she snapped some photos and posted them on social media asking for help. It turns out it was a worn molar from an adult Pacific mastodon, an extinct elephant like species.
After losing the tooth and posting it on social media a jogger found it! The age of the tooth is not known. A nearby museum says mastodons roamed California from about five million to 10,000 years ago.
