Happy Left- Handed People Day
This weekend we salute you. Happy left- handed people day! I’m talking to you all you lucky southpaws. We are unique! We are special ! And if you believe the website, LeftyFretz we are not only more creative but also more prone to certain health issues.
This is International Lefthander’s Weekend. And here are a few fun facts. Only 12 percent of the population is left handed. The condition is so rare, they were afraid of it back in 1860. According to LeftyFretz, back then if you were left handed they considered you in “league with the devil”. Wow! So naturally not many fessed up to it back then. At the time, only 2 percent of the population admitted they were non right handed.
Here are a few more fun facts. Left-handedness is about twice as common in twins as the general population. Southpaws are often credited with being more creative than righties. It was once believed that left-handed people were doomed to die earlier than their right-handed peers. This was “found” in a study in 1991 from the University of British Columbia.
Another study, this one from Scotland showed a tie between left-handedness and embarrassment. There is a term for the fear of lefties. Sinistrophobia is the clinical term for the fear of left handed people. And my last fun fact, all of Catherine’s three children are left-handed and two out of the four people on the Tanner in the Morning show are. Can you guess which ones?
