10 Must Do’s For A Weekend In Savannah Georgia

Savannah, GA is one of my absolute favorite cities in the country to visit. From the historic houses, to the river, the food, no open container laws, and lots of lots of Spanish Moss what’s not to love. It has all the old southern historic charm this southern girl loves and is close enough for a weekend getaway. As the weather warms up we are nearing the perfect time to plan a trip to this coastal Georgia city. But with so much to see and do how to do you know what the must do’s are for a trip to Savannah.

10 Must Do’s For A Weekend In Savannah

  • Visit The Paris Market

    Shop in the two stories of everything from hand-crafted jewelry and accessories to custom-made lighting, French-milled soaps to hard-to-come-by kitchen tools. Inventory changes often so there is always something new to look at. The Paris Market also features a cafe with delicious sandwiches and coffees as well as the best macaroons I’ve ever had. On your way out grab a frose to go.

  • Dine At The Olde Pink House

    The Olde Pink House is a must-stop on every trip to Savannah. This southern mansion is a gorgeous pink color (though it wasn’t designed that way) and features a restaurant and basement bar. The food and drinks are incredible and you can’t ask for a better location to feel immersed in the historic southern culture of Savannah. If you like sweet drinks I highly recommend The Pink Lady.

     

  • Tour A Historic Home

    There are many house tours you can take in Savannah, I’ve done several throughout my trips such as the Mercer- Williams House (think Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil), Sorrel-Weed House, Davenport House, and the Owens Thomas Slave House. You’ll get to see the architecture and decor, hear stories of the history and those who lived there, and maybe even some ghost stories. But more on that later. Another thing I love about these houses is their “carriage shops”. This is usually a house out back where you purchase tickets and wait for your tour to start. But almost all of these carriage houses have shops, many with local products, and I’ve found some fantastic treasures there.

     

     

  • Eat At The Pirates House

    I could honestly make an entire list of places to eat in Savannah (I honestly don’t think I’ve had a bad meal there) but this one is another top-tier must-do in my book. Everything I ate there was FANTASTIC. It was first opened in 1753 as an inn for seafarers, and fast became a meeting point for pirates and sailors from the Seven Seas. 

  • Take A Ghost Tour

    I told you we’d circle back to this one. Savannah is one of the most haunted cities in the country (they claim that title but so does New Orleans). So ghost tours are everywhere. You can take one in a hearse, on a trolley, a walking tour, or even a ghost brew tour. I won’t spoil the stories for you but murder, pirates, and tragedy are plentiful.

  • Take The Short Drive To Wormsloe Historic Site

    If you love those long Oak tree-lined drives with Spanish Moss hanging from them then you have to visit Wormsloe. You’ll enter to a breathtaking avenue sheltered by live oaks and Spanish moss that leads up to the tabby ruins of Wormsloe. While to house is in ruins, you can hike the trails and explore what’s left of this 16th century home.

  • Ride A Trolley

    A trolley tour is one of the best ways to see Savannah. The historic downtown area is only a couple of miles wide but a trolley tour will take you all around to see the sites. The best part is many of them are “hop on hop off” so you can get off enjoy the sites, grab a meal or a drink, and then get back on. You can also essentially use it as transportation throughout the day (assuming where you’re headed is on the route and you’re not in a hurry).

  • Grab A To-Go Drink And Stroll Down River Street

    I mentioned earlier the no open container laws in Savannah which means every place you go in will have to-go drinks. So grab a drink and walk down River Street taking in the views and checking out the shops and the market.

  • Take In The Art

    Savannah is home to the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) so it’s a hub for artists. Galleries are plentiful and all the shops you go in will usually have local art as well. The Telfair Museum is a great one to check out as well.

  • Get some ice cream!

    Leopold’s is the most famous ice cream, it’s on Broughton Street, but if you don’t feel like waiting in the line (and it can get long!) there are plenty of other options as well!
