Pilot Mountain Forest Fire Is Expected To Burn For Days

This story broke my heart when I first heard about it.

Popular North Carolina state park, Pilot Mountain will be closed all week due to a forest fire. The fire was first reported on Saturday evening, and crews have been working since then to contain it.

So far, the fire has already burned hundreds of acres, and the photos of the fire are haunting. Firefighters are expecting it to take several days to contain the fire.

I used to hike at Pilot Mountain quite a bit growing up, and I have so many fond memories of those mountains. I’m hoping that all the firefighters stay safe, and can contain the fire as soon as possible. After looking at these photos though, it is evident that Pilot Mountain will be hurt by this fire for years to come.
