So, yesterday was full of pleasant surprises and a welcome return. Let’s start with the return first. It’s been a minute since we’ve had an artist in the studio for an hour or more with the purpose of just hanging out and talking. And by a minute, I mean before the pandemic shut down the world in March of 2020. There was a time when we wondered if we’d ever get these opportunities again. The long-form interview is something we’ve always enjoyed doing and giving to you as the information is so good and so much more in-depth than any quick, 3-minute chat (typical phone interview time allotment) can ever provide.
Now for the pleasant surprises. Let’s start with our “DJ for the Day,” Kris Sanders. You never know when you do this kind of thing how it’s going to go. Sometimes he/she is too nervous to speak (which on the radio is a nightmare). Sometimes he/she is really intimidated and overwhelmed by the whole experience (which, on the radio, is also a nightmare). Kris was neither, and in fact, can have a part-time job if he wants it.
Pleasant surprise number two is the guy pictured with us in the picture above. We’d never spoken a word to Russell Dickerson before, but he could not have been a better interview. All you can ask is for someone to just be an open and honest person (no canned, publicist-given answers) for the conversation’s duration. Russell Dickerson was all that and more. This is a guy with three number one songs, and more ahead. Last night he opened for Tim McGraw and it will not be long before he’s the headliner-guaranteed.
