So you have wrapped up a career, and it’s time to retire. Where should you settle down? This North Carolina city has been named the most popular retirement town in the nation.
Zillow says Pinehurst is the place everybody was heading to in 2023. A retirement community is a place where at least 33% of the residents are over 65. Also, they have no children living with them in the home.
Pinehurst edged out another Carolina favorite spot. According to Zillow, “Pinehurst was the most popular retirement town among Zillow surfers in 2023, edging out Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. With warm climates and golf courses galore, it’s easy to see why both cities are popular for retirees.”
The Village of Pinehurst is in Moore County and will host the 2024 US Open Golf Tournament.
The town is growing with retired people and also younger families. Many people just love the slower pace. The population of the town has almost doubled since 2010. That’s a lot of growth.

Charlotte and the surrounding areas were very well represented on this list with five Charlotte neighborhoods making the top 10 places to buy a house. This includes both neighborhoods and suburbs.
“The Best Places to Buy a House ranking provides a comprehensive assessment of the housing and community of an area,” they explain the in the study. “This grade takes into account key factors of a location’s housing market, including home values, taxes, crime rates, and quality of local schools, in an attempt to measure the quality and stability of an area’s real estate market.”
Other factors included in the analysis include home value to income ratio, public school grades, monthly housing costs, the cost of living, the higher education rate, the median home value, and more.
