Charlotte Animal Shelter Waives Cat Adoption Fees Due to Space Crisis
Running out of space, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control has eliminated all fees for cat adoptions. The shelter needs to find homes for 16 cats right away. To help clear space, they’ve started this free adoption program. Each cat comes with an ID number to make adoption easier.
Some of the cats looking for homes include Chocolate (ID: A1241669), Hamdi (ID: A1241673), and Nunu (ID: A1241674). Gray Boy, Ginger, and Whiskers are also hoping to find loving homes.
The space issue isn’t just limited to cats. With dog kennels full too, the shelter has reduced dog adoption fees as well.
This is the second time in 2025 they’ve hit capacity limits. They sent out another overcrowding notice just last month in February. Regular adoption fees usually cost between $83 and $98, depending on the pet’s age and gender.
For those unsure about adopting, there’s a trial option. Through their “Staycation” program, families can take dogs home temporarily to see if they’re a good match.
Want to adopt? Remember to note your chosen pet’s ID number before coming in, it’ll make the process much faster.
Visit them at 8315 Byrum Drive. They’re open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and weekends from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
