Even though the Valentine’s Day moment passed, it’s a good idea to have a list of romantic spots for future special celebrations. And, you can always steal away for a weekend just because.  Thrillist.com put together a list of the most romantic getaways all over the nation.  And, a North Carolina town we love made the list.  There’s also something for all us South Carolina folks, too!  And, since we’re talking about quick weekend getaways I will include their picks for Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia too.  These are perfect for a spur of the moment trip.  So, they don’t take a lot of planning.  And, you can just hop in the car for a road trip.  It’s your vacation after all.  Therefore, we don’t need stress of airports and planning connections and the like.  Plus, most of the list included smallish towns.  And, that’s what relaxing for most of us is all about.  It’s good to get away from the hustle and bustle of a city and traffic.  These spots allow a true getaway with beautiful scenery and reconnecting with someone special.  Thrillist covered all 50 states.  But, I will condense it down for your quick reference to a smaller region.  And, feel free to explore the full list further if you feel adventurous.  Of course, Alaska and Hawaii are romantic.  But, obviously those aren’t spots you hop into the car on a Friday afternoon for the weekend. LOL.  So without further delay, let’s get the adventure started.  And, let’s find out which North Carolina town makes the list of most romantic getaways!

  • North Carolina, Blowing Rock

The Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina are captivating.  Thrillist suggests heading to Blowing Rock’s Chetola Resort.  They describe it as truly feeling like you’re “getting away from it all.”  But, there’s still a chance to visit local restaurants and museums.  If it’s the colder season, enjoy in room fireplaces.  And, take a hike during Spring and Summer.  There are tremendous views from Grandfather Mountain.  Plus, the resort is home to a spa and wellness center.

  • Georgia, Savannah

Savannah, Georgia is filled with Southern charm.  The history and architecture alone are enough to entice visitors.  Then, there’s the wonderful food and plenty of activities.  Thrillist suggests pub crawls or a tasting menu at The Grey.  And, there’s Tybee Island or a day trip to Jekyll Island.  There’s historic mansions to visit and plenty of beachfront property to explore.  Plus they also point to a visit at the Jekyll Island Club Resort.

  • South Carolina, Landrum

Thrillist suggests The Red  Horse Inn in Landrum, South Carolina.  The Red Horse is a popular anniversary and honeymoon destination.  And, they point out you can even get your own cottage.  You can visit Campbell’s Covered Bridge.  It’s the state’s only remaining bridge of that type.  The spot is a favorite for pictures and picnics.  And, they also suggest trying out Southside Smokehouse in Landrum for BBQ.

  • Tennessee, Gatlinburg

Gatlinburg is a popular place for proposals/weddings.  Thrillist points out The Smoky Mountains offer hiking, horseback riding and skiing.  And, if you like, you can enjoy some moonshine at the distilleries nearby.  And there’s plenty of wineries and breweries too.  Perhaps, visit Gatlinburg’s premier steakhouse, Cherokee Grill in an upscale mountain lodge atmosphere.  Gatlinburg has a lot to offer in the way of romance!

  • Virginia, Williamsburg

Thrillist suggests Williamsburg in Virginia.  For the history buffs there’s endless attractions.  The Colonial Williamsburg’s open air living history museum.  There’s wine country, hotels with wood burning fireplaces and nature trails.  Of course, there’s delicious food to enjoy and world class spas.  And, you  have to take a horse drawn carriage ridge through cobblestone streets.  And bloggers say Casa Pearl is a great spot to grab a bite!
