The “Big Game” is coming up. And, besides the much anticipated commercials, food is super important. Do you know what North Carolina’s favorite food for snacking on during the game is?  A lot of us think of wings as great game watching food. And, according to a report from bid-on-equipment.com, wings are the most popular in 7 states. You’ll find their popularity is strong in Illinois, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Rhode Island. Not surprisingly, queso reigns supreme in Wisconsin. A handful of states like Alabama, Kentucky and Missouri like to snack on chili. And, you’ll be able to check out the full list in the above link. So, browse around the list and see if you agree with the results.  There’s plenty of awesome choices. But, one of the most bewildering stats is the most popular food in all of America for game day. That dish is meatballs. It comes up in more searches than any other food. Buffalo wings rank 6th in popularity. And, appetizers are the go to for 7 out of 10 game day watchers. To compile the numbers, the study analyzed Google searches for terms relating to game day parties and compared the results to national averages. In this list we spotlight preferences in North Carolina, South Carolina and a few neighboring states. We include Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia as well.  Plus, we find out which state shares its top choice with North Carolina’s favorite food for the big game.  And, the choice might surprise you!

  • Tennessee

One of the most popular foods at any party I ever attend made the top choice in Tennessee. Pigs in a blanket are the favorite if you attend a big game day party in Tennessee. That favorite food is shared by those living in Michigan. And, I understand! It’s one of my all time favorite finger foods. It’s easy to make and easy to eat. And, they are delicious. If you really need a recipe, check this one out.

  • Virgina

The top choice for party goers in Virginia is the traditional Buffalo Wings.  You really can’t go wrong with Buffalo Wings.  There are so many variations.  They can be the typical vinegar and hot sauce based or teriyaki, lemon pepper, garlic.  The combinations are endless, and everyone loves them.  Make sure you have the crunchy celery and carrot sticks for a refreshing bite alongside the wings.  And, blue cheese or ranch is a must.  I prefer ranch myself.

  • Georgia

So, Georgia, just like Tennessee, prefers to snack on pigs in a blanket during the big game.  Apparently, the search engines in the state were loaded down with terms relating to the yummy appetizer.  In my opinion,  you just can’t have enough of them.  And, you can either make them yourself or just buy them pre-made and frozen.  Make it easy on yourself so you can enjoy the party, too!

  • South Carolina

According to the stats, South Carolina prefers the good old fashioned hot dog for game day.  I know they’re popular for July 4th and any outdoor party.  However, I never really thought about them as a snack for the big game that happens in February.  I do love a good hot dog though.  And, in winter time, they’re super great topped with chili and cheese.  After topping with chili and cheese, I put them under the broiler to crisp the bun and melt the cheese.  They are delicious!  So, props to South Carolina for thinking outside the box!

  • North Carolina

Finally, we get to the reveal for North Carolina.  The Tar Heel state apparently conducts the most searches for Chips and Salsa!  Not surprisingly, that love is shared by Texans.  But, in a strange coincidence, that’s also the top choice for Arizona where the big game will be played.  Of course, everyone loves a good salsa.  And, we can’t get enough chips.  So, I can get behind that vote!  I just so happen to have a delicious and easy blender salsa recipe you can whip up in no time.  Have fun and enjoy the party!
