Coffee Might Actually Be Good For You
Most people drink a cup – or three – of coffee every morning, but did you know your daily cup of joe might actually have health benefits? According to GoodNet, those who live a sedentary lifestyle might want to start their day with a cup of coffee.
Having a sedentary lifestyle is damaging to the body and has been linked to increased risk of death from heart-disease and other health conditions. A sedentary lifestyle means to be a person who sits for more than six hours each day in this study, which is less time than the average work day! However, for those who can’t get up and moving throughout the day there’s still hope.
This hope comes from, of all things, coffee! A study was recently published that followed over ten thousand Americans for over ten years. This study found that those who drank coffee actually had lower mortality rates than those who didn’t.
This isn’t the first time coffee has been studied for its health benefits. In 2022 a study was published from the UK Biobank that concluded those who drank two or three cups of coffee a day had a lower risk of heart disease or heart failure. However, it is good to keep in mind that correlation doesn’t equal causation.
Even if coffee isn’t fully proven to cause health benefits just yet the first study does show how dangerous sedentary lifestyle is. Exercising once a day isn’t even enough to rid the effects of sitting all day long. It’s important, now more than ever, to get up and move around throughout the day if possible. For those who do drink coffee in the morning, it might be a little sweeter now knowing the potential of it leading to a longer, healthier life.
