A New “Stargate”
1994 was a big year for me (Charlie).
I got married.
And as a sci-fi junkie…”Stargate” came out. It starred Kurt Russell and James Spader and rather than try to explain it to you, here’s the original trailer.
This movie was later turned into a spin-off series, “Stargate SG-1” that ran for 10 years on Showtime and the SyFy Channel. That series had more than 200 episodes and its events took place about a year after those of the original film.
Then earlier this year, it was announced “Stargate Origins” was going into production as a new series.
“Stargate Origins” is a prequel to Stargate SG-1 and will explore the backstory of Dr. Catherine Langford, the daughter of Professor Langford – the man who discovered the Stargate in Giza, Egypt in 1928, as depicted in the 1994 feature film “Stargate.”
The events of the series will take place 10 years after the discovery of the gate, and will consiste of 10 episodes-EACH ONLY 10 minutes in length. It will be on MGM’s forthcoming digital platform and I guess will be kind of like a modern movie serial.
Cool concept.
