This is groundbreaking and moving in a positive direction for video games. The upcoming Harry Potter RPG video game for the PS5 will have a feature that will allow you to play with transgender characters.
Hogwart’s Legacy is set to be released in 2022 and caught backlash after J.K. Rowling’s anti-trans comments raised the ire of actors from the Wizarding World.
In the game, players will have the option to choose trans-inclusive characters before gameplay with the ability to separate their character’s voice, body, and gender. According to a press release, players will then get to select one of two options — “witch” or “wizard” — that will determine the house dorm they will be placed in at Hogwarts. This will also determine how the character will be addressed by other characters in the game. I am so excited about this game!
