Superstar Olympic Gymnast Is Fighting For Her Life
Olympic champion Mary Lou Retton ‘Fighting For Her Life’ in ICU. Olympic gold medalist Mary Lou Retton is battling life-threatening pneumonia, according to her family.
Her daughter, McKenna Kelley says the 55-year-old gymnastics great is unable to breathe on her own and is “fighting for her life” in the ICU.
Kelley says her mother is uninsured and has set up a SpotFund account to help pay for her medical bills.
WOWK-TV in West Virginia says Retton became an American icon during the 1984 Summer Olympics when she became the first U.S. gymnast to win all-around gold, along with perfect ’10’ scores in the floor and vault. She is considered one of West Virginia’s most famous athletes of all time and has a road and park named after her in her hometown of Fairmont.

Team USA Gymnastics is looking to be a big contender for gold in Tokyo, once again.
Competition kicks off today (July 23) for Men’s Gymnastics with the first subdivision of the qualification round, while Women’s Gymnastics’ first subdivision qualification round begins on July 24.
The biggest name from Team USA Gymnastics is Simone Biles, the most decorated U.S. women’s gymnast ever. She's already making headlines by landing the Yurchenko double pike vault in the practice sessions in Tokyo.
