Parents Are Dishing Out Hundreds of Dollars For Fortnite Tutoring
How far would your parents go to make you a well-rounded…gamer?
Fortnite seems to be the video game played ’round the world, but not all kids are treating it as just a game. Fortnite has gotten so serious that parents are actually paying up to $20 an hour for a “tutor” to train their children in the game and help improve their skills.
For those that are unfamiliar, Fortnite: Save the World is “designed as a player-versus-environment game, with four players cooperating towards a common objective on various missions,” and Fortnite Battle Royale is a “player-versus-player battle royale game for up to 100 players, playing alone or in squads of two or four.” With the game’s rising popularity, children have immersed themselves in the culture and their parents have not hesitated to hop on board with their emotional and financial support.
Children and their parents are claiming that there is immense pressure to be very good at the game and that it can have negative effects for them at school if they are not up to the same level as their peers. A mother of a 10 year old boy purchased four hours worth of lessons and training for her son to help him “fit in” better at school, whereas another parent, who has also paid for tutoring sessions, is simply excited that his son’s skills have greatly improved and he now gets upwards of 20 wins.
We as kids were once told not to spend hours playing video games but looks like parents now will pay for you to do just that.
