Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie Use Super Bowl Sunday to Tease New American Idol
Luke Bryan and his fellow American Idol judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie took to Twitter on this Super Bowl Sunday to tease the upcoming season of American Idol.
While Luke held a football, he said, “I hope you all enjoy the big game,” Perry adds “And don’t forget the half-time show, performing on that stage was one of the most exciting things I’ve ever done.” Richie then says, “And who knows maybe one of our new Idol hopefuls will make it to that stage one day soon.” Luke says, “Our new American Idol journey begins in one month on ABC.”

The seventeenth season of American Idol will premiere on March 3, 2019, on ABC.
Luke sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 2017. He said at the time before he performed, “The opportunity to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl is something that I can honestly say I’ve probably dreamed of ever since I was a kid. To wake up and things that you’ve dreamed of are right in front of you, it’s pretty powerful. I’m just excited about the opportunity to go out there and honor America, honor our country, honor our troops, and I will certainly be excited to hit the last note and not be so nervous anymore and go enjoy a football game.”
