Ashley Judd Discusses Her Near-Fatal Experience In The Congo
On February 12, actress Ashley Judd opened up on Instagram with The New York Times’ Nicholas Kristoff about an excursion gone wrong in the Congolese rainforest, where she tripped over a fallen tree after dark resulting in a severe leg injury.
Judd shares in an Instagram post that she laid on the floor for 5 hours of the rainforest while she awaited emergency medical help. It was then that her leg was assessed to be broken, and adjusted back into place, twice. According to Judd, “It was broken in four places and had nerve damage.” The entirety of the grueling ordeal lasted 55 hours, and she was thankful for the help she received, saying, “Friends. Without my Congolese brothers and sisters, my internal bleeding would have likely killed me, and I would have lost my leg.”
Judd said she was in Congo working at a research camp to study an endangered species of apes, the bonobos.
