Rare Cotton-Candy Lobster Caught
Rare ‘Cotton Candy’ Lobster Caught Off Maine Coast.
According to USAToday, a lobsterman in Maine just made the catch of a lifetime – an ultra-rare ‘cotton candy’ lobster. The lobster has a 1 in 100 million genetic mutation that gives its shell an opal color and iridescent sheen.
The man who caught it, Bill Coppersmith, says he’s never seen a cotton candy lobster in 40 years of fishing. He named it Haddie, after his granddaughter. Groups are now reaching out to aquariums hoping to find a new home for Haddie.
