Gallery: Why You Should Go Back To ‘The Schiele’ In Gastonia, North Carolina
See these great big kids? When they were little, I would take them to the Schiele Museum of Natural History at least once a week. I knew that place like the back of my hand. Now, there are so many reasons why you should go back to the Schiele Museum of Natural History in Gastonia, North Carolina.
Initially I went back over the Christmas holidays because of my daughter Emily. I guess all those trips there when she was little helped spark a love of helping animals and being in nature. She is majoring in marine biology and invited us over for a behind the scenes tour. Part of what she is doing is helping with the rehabilitation of wildlife. When I got there, I discovered so much has changed over the years.
All of the things you love about the Schiele are still there. You can still learn about fossils and minerals; you can still go to the Planetarium and learn about space and the planets. The Planetarium is so much more advanced now! It is incredible. We spent a lot of our day seeing how they are helping rehabilitate wild animals. Each animal has their own habitat and is tended to with love and care. Some are visible from the exhibit area, and we got some personal face time with a few of the critters.
When you visit again, make time to stroll through The Farm, it is an all-new outdoor experience sponsored by the Gaston County Farm Bureau. Check out the Natural Amazement area and discover animals in their own habitat. They offer winter break activities for the kids and even music under the stars from time to time with a band you will love.
If you grew up in this area, you have been to The Schiele. But go back and plan a day of it! It is like going to an all new exciting place right in our own backyard. To learn more about activities, features and upcoming events get details here.
