Senior Prank At Union County, NC High School Does A lot Of Damage
WBTV says deputies with the Union County Sheriff’s Office are looking to identify the students who took part in a senior “prank” that damaged equipment throughout a Monroe school.
A group of students at Sun Valley High School are said to have poured honey onto electrical panels, printers, and copiers, according to the sheriff’s office. They also allegedly spread flour and toilet paper throughout the hallways.
The Sheriff’s Office Put This On Facebbook. Maybe students should pay attention to this post.
“Senior Pranks”: How to Avoid Being Arrested, Prosecuted, and Fined
“Senior pranks” are not new and we understand that oftentimes these events are intended to be harmless and fun. However, a recent “senior prank” at one of our local schools has caused significant, costly property damage resulting in an extensive clean-up and repair process. The time and money it has and will take to clean this school and replace the electrical and computer equipment that was destroyed is still being calculated but is expected to be significant. Those involved in causing the extensive property damage are currently being identified by UCSO deputies and will likely be charged with numerous criminal offenses related to this incident. With that being said, the UCSO would like to share the information below with anyone considering or planning a “senior prank” at any of our educational campuses.
– Entering a school building without permission or authorization during non-school hours is considered Felony Breaking and/or Entering and can result in a criminal arrest and subsequent prosecution.
– Damaging property within an educational building or on an educational campus is also an arrestable offense and upon conviction may result in the suspect or suspects involved being held responsible for all financial damages related to the incident.
We encourage all local parents to review this information with their children/teenagers and to always be aware of where their children/teenagers are and whom they are spending time with. With smart decision-making and proper parental supervision, we can ensure that all of our students make positive, lifelong memories during this special time and not jeopardize their futures.
UCSO deputies will be increasing their patrols of our local educational campuses in order to prevent and deter any criminal activity within our community. If you observe suspicious activity at one of our local schools or in your community, please call 911 or the UCSO Main Office at (704)283-3789.
