Matt LeBlanc Shares Touching Tribute to Matthew Perry
LeBlanc shared a series of photos of him and Perry throughout the ten-season run of Friends. He captioned the photos with, “Matthew. It is with a heavy heart I say goodbye. The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life.”
He continued, “It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never. Spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free. Much love.”
LeBlanc whimsically concluded, “And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me.”
LeBlanc is the first main cast member of Friends to share a personal tribute to Perry. Following Perry’s death, the five surviving cast members issued a joint statement. They said on Oct. 30, “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”
They continued, “In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
Perry, of course, reached incredible levels of stardom along with the rest of the cast of Friends. The series ran for 234 episodes from 1994-2004. During the show’s run, Perry received one Primetime Emmy Award nomination in 2002 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Friends won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2002.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Perry was found dead in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles. No drugs were found at the scene, and no foul play is suspected. The cause of death is not currently known. An autopsy and toxicology report is being conducted by the Los Angeles County Coroner.
