Having A “Lazy Day” Might Actually Make You More Productive
Currently hustle culture is a big trend, but this type of work leaves no room for breaks and burnout is proof that it might not be as productive as it actually seems. According to CNBC Make It this Zen Buddhist monk actually suggests that being lazy can make you more productive.
On an episode of “Ten Percent Happier with Dan Harris,” a Zen Buddhist Monk, Brother Pháp Hữu, talked about why being lazy actually helps you become productive. “Sometimes the doing nothing, it gives us an opportunity to just reflect,” he said. “To just really look deeply and ask ourself, ‘Am I happy? What I’m doing, is it giving me nourishment? Is it offering me the joy that I need in order to also offer joy?’”
Hữu says that he takes one of these “Lazy Days” every single week. During this day he does schedule anything and just goes with the flow. He says that those who want to add these lazy days to their schedule should start with 30-minutes of allowing themselves to just be present in the current moment. During this time it is important to avoid doing things like watching a movie or going on your phone and to note everytime this happens.
Hữu states “in the non-doing here, it is actually doing. So in the not being active, there is another thing that is happening which is allowing yourself to feel and to see what needs to be felt and seen.”
