Garth On Lip Syncing: I’d Do It Again
Garth Brooks isn’t apologizing for his controversial decision to lip sync during the 51st Annual CMA Awards in Nashville November 8th. In fact, he says he’d make the same decision again given the circumstances.
The controversy began with Garth’s CMA performance of “Ask Me How I Know,” which he readily admitted to lip syncing when asked about it shortly thereafter. He was in the middle of a series of shows in Spokane when the CMAs took place, he explained at the time, and his voice wasn’t in the best shape.

Further, the G Man was trying to save what was left of his voice for fans who’d bought tickets to the Spokane shows, seven of which were still to come when he performed on the CMAs. “The truth is I love awards show,” Garth said during a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “I think they’re sweet. “But to me they’re like the tree is to Christmas. They’re the symbol of it, but they’re not what it’s all about. What it’s about is those people who put their butts in the seat, travel fight that traffic [and] pay that parking. That’s who you want to save your voice for.”
All good, Garth. We love ya. See the entire interview, not to mention Ellen’s failed attempt at scaring the megastar here.
