Rascal Flatts’ Favorite Childhood Christmas Gifts
Everyone remembers their favorite childhood Christmas gift and the guys of Rascal Flatts are no different. They’re even sharing some of them.
Not surprisingly, a couple of those gifts had to do with music. “The most memorable Christmas gift I ever received was an old beat up set of Gretsch drums,” Jay DeMarcus says through the trio’s record label. “My mom and dad had gone to a pawn shop and gotten [them] for me. It was so great to have a ‘real’ drum kit to play on, and I’ll never forget for the rest of my life how exciting it was for me to have a real instrument and not just the kid version.”
“I mean the same kind of thing with me and my first gift I remember was a four-track recorder,” Joe Don Rooney adds. “So I got to start actually making some music of my own and it really put me on a path with creativity and music. And I mean, I just loved that thing. It was just amazing.”

Gary LeVox‘s gifters took a different approach. “I didn’t have an instrument,” he acknowledges. “My favorite gift was a wind-up Evil Knievel. That was my favorite. Wind it up and [he’d] do a wheelie sometimes.”
Whatever the gifts under your family’s tree, opening them to Rascal Flatts’ Christmas album The Greatest Gift Of All might make ’em even more enjoyable. The project came out last year and can be found here. Stream it on Spotify, too, here.
