Chris Stapleton’s Revealing New Interview
Chris Stapleton isn’t done writing songs for other musicians, he avoids Nashville’s touristy Lower Broadway whenever possible, and he avoids alcohol when he’s writing. Those are just a few things we learned from his recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.
Chris sat down with the comedian/host to support the release of his latest album From A Room: Volume 2. They quickly delved into Chris’ songwriting, which has delivered numerous hits for other country artists over the years. “It’s still one of my favorite things to do,” Chris notes, making clear that he’s nowhere near being finished with it. “I’m just as interested in that as I am in doing my own thing.”

The guys also talked about Nashville, which is seeing a big increase in tourist traffic these days. One of the hot spots is the city’s famous downtown haunts on Lower Broadway, but Chris explains that they’re not what they used to be. “There’s a thing now there you go downtown and it’s more like you’re going to a giant bachelorette party or something,” he tells the host. “Everybody’s just looking to drink their face off and listen to bad covers.”
Rogan explores the history of drinking and partying in country music, too, asking Chris if it helps him write. “I don’t like that,” Chris explains, noting that he appreciates the clarity that comes with avoiding it. “Some guys, that makes them all of a sudden turn into the Michael Jordan of songwriting. For me, if I’m gonna do something like that, it’s recreational and I’m gonna go eat a bunch of chips and watch a movie or something. Not much worthwhile is gonna come out of that for me!”
