Intern’s Corner with Randi: My Final Goodbye!
As I sit and think back to my first Intern’s Corner post, I begin to realize how far I have come and how much I have learned. This final corner post gives me the chance to look back on the last three months.
After completing a previous internship experience at a children’s hospital, I was not sure what I was looking for in my next adventure. I had grown a love for radio and knew I wanted to learn more aspects of radio other than on-air talent. When I found this internship online, honestly, I was terrified. I thought that I was completely unqualified, but I knew I wanted to give it a shot.
When Alexis Zarycki, Digital Program Director, reached back out to me for an interview I was shocked but beyond excited and wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. When Alexis offered me the position, I remember calling my parents freaking out once I got in my car. I knew it was going to be different and a lot of work, but I was beyond ready!
Over these last few weeks, I have been able to grow my writing skills more than I could have ever imagined. I have published numerous articles throughout the sites of six different radio stations. From entertainment news to local news, I have been able to learn to understand my audience and know how to write in a way that attracts them.
Outside of writing articles, I have been able to learn a lot about digital content from Alexis. She has taught me to create newsletters for specific audiences, creating contests, events, content calendars, and even how to deal with my own Mac when needed.
Besides teaching me all that she knows, Alexis gave me the chance to learn from so many other people in the Beasley office. I have been able to shadow the videographer Mark Borja, the promotions team at a remote event, and on-air talents Cameron Moore and Vonyetta. Each shadowing opportunity taught me something new and made me realize how much I truly enjoy the radio station atmosphere.
My creative juices have begun to flow more than ever during this experience and I thank everyone for being able to help me find something that I love and enjoy so much. As I finish up my last week and prepare for my college graduation, I am beyond glad I got to spend my last semester of college as an intern for Beasley Media Group. The things that I have learned here will be things I get to take with me to my next chapter of life.
Finally, I want to thank Alexis Zarycki specifically. Without her, I would not have been able to not only learn so much about digital content, but I would not be 100% sure on what I want to do for the rest of my life. This experience has been able to help me find the career path that best fits my skills and passion.
