Saving Your Home During COVID-19
Have you heard of the HOMES Program? Well, Mecklenburg County homeowners have more time now to apply for the HOMES Program. The deadline was extended by the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners to November 13, 2020. The HOMES Program is a public assistance program designed to assist low to moderate income qualified Mecklenburg County homeowners keep their homes by providing financial assistance. The Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners approved the program’s deadline extension during Tuesday night’s Board meeting on October 20, 2020, and there is $250,000 in assistance available.
The County Assessor’s Office, the Office of the Tax Collector and the Department of Social Services are working together to implement this program. Are you an eligible homeowner?
Do you live in Mecklenburg County and own a residential property or occupy a property with a qualifying life estate?
Have you lived in the primary residence for the past three consecutive years?
Do not have more than one delinquent property tax bill in the last three years?
If your total household income does not exceed 50% of the Area Median Income set by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), you might be a candidate. For example, a family of four’s household income limit is $41,750.
The HOMES program application can be found on the Mecklenburg County’s taxes Website. Applicants can request a paper application by phone, 980-314-4226 or by visiting the County Assessor’s Office lobby at 3205 Freedom Drive, Suite 3500, Charlotte.
