Ticketmaster Issues Statement on COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement Report
Ticketmaster has issued a statement to the media clarifying a report from Billboard that stated the ticketing giant was developing plans to verify fans’ COVID-19 vaccination or testing status before they attended events.
Ticketmaster’s statement reads, “It was widely misreported yesterday that Ticketmaster will be requiring vaccine status/test results for future events. This is not true. Ticketmaster does not have the power to set policies around safety/entry requirements, which would include vaccines and/or testing protocols. That is up to the discretion of the event organizer.”
Ticketmaster’s statement concluded, “We are indeed exploring these options, but it is still only a potential concept. And Ticketmaster will not be able to require such parameters — it would always be up to the event organizer.”
Billboard’s initial report stated Ticketmaster was exploring plans to track a fan’s vaccine or testing status via their digital ticket app and by partnering with third-party health information companies and various testing and vaccine providers. If fans didn’t have the COVID-19 vaccine, they would need to test negative for the virus within a 24 to 72 hour window.
Billboard reported the plans were still in the developmental stages and nothing was been made official yet by Ticketmaster. Billboard also noted, “Ticketmaster would not store or have access to fans’ medical records and would only receive verification of whether a fan is cleared to attend an event on a given date.”
