Miranda Lambert On LGBTQ Community: ‘There Is A Change In The Air’
Miranda Lambert’s brother Luke and his husband, and a bunch of his friends are in Miranda’s new “Tequila Does” remix video, and Lambert talked with GLAAD about the new work and supporting the LBGTQ community.
Miranda said before she even did the video, she sent the idea to her brother for approval, “I sent it to my brother Luke, his husband, and all their friends because that’s like their vibe, and they loved it. They pushed me over the edge.”
She notes how the idea came about, “I was sitting at my trailer park, I have this trailer park at my farm in Tennessee, and I had this idea to shoot a video here of all the fun moments. My brother and all his friends from Austin came, and all my Nashville friends came, and we just partied and put it on film, and it was really, really fun.”
Lambert loves that she gets to support the community and hopefully create change in the country music genre. She said, “I do think we’re in a moment of change, and I have so much to learn, and I’m always sensitive, I always tell my brother I want to say the right things, and I know I’m uneducated, but I am full of love.”
She adds, “As a country artist I get to lift them up and stand on the platform with them, and it makes me so happy that all of our friends came together all kinds of kinds are in this video.”
Miranda says of country music and the LGBTQ community, “It’s me learning to be part of the change and part of the community and still be an artist. I don’t see why those worlds can’t mesh. I speak up about things I care about are people and animals, so if I can be part of the change in any way, I always want to do that. It’s being with great people and loving them no matter what shape, size, color. It’s very cool to me that there is a change in the air, and these people are being so brave to be like, ‘This is who I am.”
