Children With Congenital Heart Defects
Join us for the 2023 Charlotte Walk supporting our Congenital Heart Walk (CHD) on October 15th. This event will have fun activities, entertainment, research updates, and a family-friendly walk. During the event, they raise funds and awareness to save and improve the lives of those living with CHD. I am conducting a radio segment with Aly Speaker regarding her journey with congenital heart disease (CHD). I’ll be asking questions like, how long can a baby live with congenital heart disease? It’s estimated that 95% of babies born with a non-critical CHD are expected to survive to at least 18 years of age. About 69% of babies born with critical CHDs are expected to survive to at least 18 years of age.
In Charlotte, North Carolina we are lucky to have Levine’s Children’s Hospital that most parents will visit if their child has congenital heart disease. Congenital heart disease is the number 1 birth defect, and every 15 minutes, a baby is born with CHD. If a critical CHD is not detected soon after birth, an infant can die. Thanks to improvements in diagnostic imaging and care, many congenital heart defects can be detected before a baby is born. North Carolina our Children’s Heart Foundation Walk is Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm at Symphony Park. Registration opens at 9 am, the opening ceremony begins at 10 am and the Walk kicks off at 10:30 am. and ends at 12:30 am.
