North Carolina: With Many Options, What’s Our Best Salad Bar?
Although you can easily make these bowls yourself at home, there’s something about going to a quick salad bar restaurant that just seems to make life easier. In addition, these chains have become increasingly popular throughout the country. In North Carolina, we are in luck. Eat This, Not That recently detailed the top three salad bar restaurants across the country, and we are one of four states in the country that has all three chains.
Chopt, Just Salad, and Sweetgreen were named the top three salad chains in America. Though they each aim to provide customers with quick and healthy meals, there are some minor differences to point out.
Chopt, which also offers wraps and warm bowls, often features creative collaborations and changes its seasonal menu. Regardless, it offers all your salad fixings chopped up, mixed together, and served in a to-go bowl.
Though their name would lead you to believe otherwise, Just Salad also has wraps and warm items. In fact, they also have soups and smoothies. Just Salad makes an effort to use sustainable products and sources ingredients from local, fresh suppliers.
Sweetgreen arguably has the heartiest menu of the bunch. They often integrate items like sweet potatoes and base grains. Their menu is strictly bowls that they describe as “Fresh, plant-forward, earth-friendly food.”
Salad Bar Locations In North Carolina
Charlotte seems to be our most popular salad spot. Just Salad and Sweetgreen have locations here. Chopt, on the other hand, seems to really love serving people their greens. North Carolina has the second most Chopt locations in the country. Only New York, with 27, has more.
So, Where To Go? Writer’s Pick
Each of these great salad bar chains has dozens of ways to craft your perfect salad. However, I fall into the category of getting the same thing every time. That’s because it is consistently great.
When I’m going for salad, I am going for the harvest bowl at Sweetgreen. Now, I do make some customizations. I opt for the pesto vinaigrette dressing, add in cucumber, and swap goat cheese for parm crisps. The only curve ball to my order is whether or not I’m hungry enough to accept the bread offer.
3 Potential NFL Draft Destinations For UNC's Drake Maye
On Wednesday, December 27, North Carolina will play their last game of the season in Charlotte (Duke’s Mayo Bowl vs. West Virginia). With Drake Maye being one of the top prospects in the 2024 NFL draft, it’s time to take a look at three potential landing destinations for the star quarterback.
UNC is coming off a 8-4 record this season. Although his statistics were not as high as last year, Maye still had an incredible year, throwing for 3,608 yards and 24 touchdowns. At just 21 years old, Maye is the ideal size for a NFL quarterback, standing 6 foot 4.
2024 Draft Class
Many of the top players have still to officially declare for the draft. Yet, the expectation is that all the names we are seeing atop the mock draft boards will be moving up to the next level. There have been eyes on this year’s class for a few years now. That’s largely due to the generational quarterback pool.
USC’s Caleb Williams is a safe assumption to be the first overall pick. That’s where things can get tricky. The Carolina Panthers currently have the worst record at 1-11. However, due to last year’s trade, the Chicago Bears own their pick. Do the Bears need or want a QB? They just drafted Justin Fields. Of course, we still have the NFL combine, player pro days, and team meetings ahead of us. Much can change in that time. Still, I believe Maye will be the next quarterback taken after Williams.
To further emphasize how deep (and potentially special) this class is, three of the four Heisman Trophy finalists this season are quarterbacks. None of them are named Caleb Williams or Drake Maye (Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr.)
Come April, we can see as many as 10 NFL teams in need of a new quarterback. Here are three NFL teams that have a good probability of selecting in the top five picks of the NFL draft, where Drake Maye will likely be taken.
