It looks like it is coming soon to North Carolina. Your homeowners insurance is going up. Here is the massive amount your home insurance could soon increase in North Carolina. It ain’t pretty.
The list below shows the increases that are being proposed to the state. This usually turns into a lower number after negotiations. But when you start with these large numbers, the increase could still be substantial.
Areas of North Carolina near the coast could see their rates double. The counties around the Charlotte metro could be paying from 25% to 50% more to protect their property. Raleigh and surrounding cities will not escape the increases. They could go up 40% or more.
The mountain counties will still see an increase but it will probably be less than the rest of the state.
WBTV reported the Department of Insurance said the potential rate hike is a balancing act of making sure consumers pay a fair amount and that companies continue doing business in North Carolina.
NCDOI spokesperson Barry Smith said, “What we do not want to happen is what is happening in some other states, and I’m thinking of Florida comes to mind, where insurance companies are leaving the state and consumers don’t have choices.”
