The Unnecessary Death Of An American Institution
I first heard the words on Saturday morning, “…as of yesterday, girls can now join the Scouts BSA Program.”
This is the new name of what has been know forever as the Boy Scouts of America. Of all the HORRIBLE results of bowing before “gender equality” pressure, THIS is the top of the list.
You see, there already was “gender equality” in scouting. It’s called “The Girl Scouts of America.”
I speak from experience on this as I was a Scout at the highest level. I traveled to World Jamborees, hiked the mountains at Philmont and achieved almost as much as any scout can.
And in all of my experiences, never once did I miss or have need of having girls around.
I realize this next statement is going to irk some people, but I don’t care. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING A BOY OR BEING A GIRL.
Further…
THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH RAISING BOYS AND GIRLS TO BE DIFFERENT-BECAUSE THEY ARE.
The scouting program is for ages 11-17. This is a time of GREAT physical, emotional, and psychological change for both sexes. I believe before you can be a responsible, gentile, and respectful man around women, you must first learn, mature and come to terms with who you are.
I learned so much from scouting. I learned so many skills. I had so much fun with other guys, just being guys (and guess what, THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT EITHER). And I did all of that without having my pubescent mind and body distracted by girls.
As of right now, it is said that troops will be separated by sex and will not be co-ed. HOWEVER, there is also talk of co-ed camping trips, hikes, activities. Once you blur the initial lines, this is the next step in evolution. In today’s litigious, guilt-by-accusation society, I can’t tell you how fraught with disaster this is.
Want an example?
A girl is getting changed in her tent. A fellow scout is looking for matches to start a fire and is told this girl was the last one to have them. He walks over to her tent, leans in to ask, and the young girl is understandably traumatized by being seen like this.
She comes home from the trip, upset. Her parents are upset and her being upset. “How could this happen?!” Well, there can only be one answer…
The boy is immediately labeled a peeping tom, a pervert, and a deviant whose libido is out of control and must be labeled as a predator for the rest of his life.
He’s 12.
Think it won’t happen?
Then, not to lecture, but you’re being naive. And your naivite could ruin your son’s life before it begins.
As reported by WCNC, “Change is hard for everybody, right,” said Mark Turner, Scout Executive with Boy Scouts of America’s Mecklenburg County Council. “But when you stop changing, you stop growing.”
Mr. Turner. You are correct in many things, stagnation is death. However, there are some American institutions that are not in need of change.
The National Anthem.
The Pledge of Allegiance.
The Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts of America.
The Boy Scout Motto is “Be Prepared.”
When I was in Scouts, that meant be prepared with a pocket knife, matches, pancho…
If scouting keeps “growing,” then it will also mean “Be Prepared” with a lawyer on retainer.
