Tarnished Legacy?
It was ten years ago this afternoon when Debbie and I started to see news reports and bulletins regarding something about Michael Jackson in L.A.
There’s always a TV on in the corner of my eye, and since we were doing the show, I couldn’t pay attention until we were in a commercial break.
When I could, we were in shock.
Michael Jackson was dead.
I’ve been fortunate in my life to see A LOT of artists in A LOT of musical genres perform. NONE were as visually dazzling as watching Michael Jackson live onstage. My parents took me to see him and his brothers on the infamous “Victory” tour. And I saw him on the “Bad” tour during my senior year in high school.
Both times I walked away amazed by that tour-de-force of talent.
Since his death, well, let’s just say that there’s been more than a couple of unsavory allegations made about him in his personal life. They may very well be true. However, it does seem a little unfair to me that as a dead man, he is unable to defend himself.
That being said, I have always been able to separate my feelings about someone’s personal life from their professional one.
-I may not agree with some of the things the Dixie Chicks did, but I sure love their music
-I DEFINITELY don’t agree with how Tiger Woods conducted himself in his marriage, but that deosn’t change the fact that he’s the most amazing golfer I’ve ever see with my own two eyes
So that’s how, 10 years later, I feel about Michael Jackson. He was one weird, twisted, damaged dude. However, that dude when the lights were bright, was like no one else…EVER.
How do you feel about him?
