Eric Church Throws Shade On Garth Brooks
Full disclosure, I’m in the camp of “NO ONE SHOULD WIN ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR UNTIL ERIC CHURCH DOES.”
Sorry, I love Garth Brooks, but it’s sort of like when Michael Jordan was in the NBA. You could have named him MVP every year, but there were some years where other’s greatness needed to be recognized.
I really feel like Church needs to be acknowledged.
Anyway, last night in Washington DC, Eric was covering Waylon Jennings’ 1975 classic, “Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way,” and took a subtle yet big shot at Garth at the end of the song.
While the line from Waylon typically reads: “But I don’t think Hank done it this way, no, I don’t think Hank done it this way,” an homage to the great Hank Williams Sr., Eric belted out, “I know Garth didn’t do it this way.”
The crowd roared, the band busted up laughing, but the best part of the entire thing was that signature “yeah, I said it” Eric Church smirk that he flashed as he walked away from the mic.
Obviously, Chief feels he got robbed at the CMAs last week, too. 😉
Epic.
Probably gonna piss people off who Church needs to vote for him, but I get the feeling he could not care less.
