For Me, Christmas Is Now About The Little Things
This picture is of a pull-string Santa decoration that hangs in the passageway between our kitchen and dining room. It is the only decoration that I know of that remains from Debbie’s childhood. It hung in a similar place in her mother and father’s house.
Debbie is very quiet and keeps her emotions far from the surface (unlike her husband for sure <g>), but I know it means the world for her to have it in our home now. We don’t dare pull the string in fear of it breaking, but we did brave it a year ago to capture it on video.
As the years pass by, it’s amazing to me how much little things like Christmas decorations have come to mean to us both.
I’m sitting here in the dark, staring at our Christmas tree as I’m writing this. If there was not a single gift under it, I would be fine, as the some of the things that are hanging on it…the memories behind them…have much greater significance than any present. Amazing how that perspective changes, right? Here’s just a few of what I’m talking about:
There are many more, but these are just a few that caught my eye this morning. What are the ornaments or decorations that mean the most to you?
For me, Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without them.
