“Amazing Stories” Returns
In 1985, there was not a bigger, bankable, “star” than director, Steven Spielberg. “Indiana Jones,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Jaws,” “ET” etc. they were ALL on his resume at this point. So it was quite a coup when NBC announced his Midas touch was coming to TV.
“Amazing Stories” was a weekly show that, like “The Twilight Zone” was a different story and cast each week. IMDB.com describes it as “Truly amazing, fantastical, funny, and odd, and sometimes scary, sad, and endearing stories are portrayed.”
It got, at the time, an unprecedented two season order from the network. They were SO SURE it was going to be a hit. I mean you’ve got Spielberg and an action/adventure anthology series…what could go wrong.
It wasn’t a hit. And it didn’t survive past that initial order.
Well, now all that is old is new again. Apple TV+, home to the FANTASTIC original series “The Morning Show” and “Servant” is bringing “Amazing Stories” back to life.
Apparently Steven Spielberg wants a do-over.
“Amazing Stories” hits Apple TV+ on March 6.
